5 Must Have Firefox Add-ons for Web Development

Firefox is still the daddy of browsers in my opinion, even better than Google Chrome and way better than Internet Explorer. There are tons of add-ons you can use with Firefox that will make your surfing experience quicker, more informative and fun. As a web developer I am always on the look out for time saving tools that will make my day a little easier. Below are some of my must have Firefox extensions for the budding web developer or keen enthusiast:

Firebug

This awesome tool will allow you to inspect the HTML and CSS of any webpage. Hover over any element on the page to find out how it fits together. You can rip other websites with ease but its main use is to find out errors in a page. Firebug allows you to edit CSS, HTML and JavaScript easily so you can debug any errors very quickly. Any web developer that does not use this add on is crazy, a big time saver.

Rank Checker

Ever wondered where your website is ranked on the search engines? This tool is great for checking your ranks on Google, Yahoo and Live. It allows you to paste in multiple keywords at a time and you can even export the data to an Excel file. Added to this the fact it’s a free keyword rank checker than you have no excuses to try this out.

Web Developer

This must have Firefox Add-on adds a menu to your Firefox browser that gives you access to numerous web developer tools. Easily rip JavaScript and CSS files of other sites. Validate your site code to see if it meets the standards. Easily disable Java and cookies for web site testing. This is a great tool which I use everyday.

Color Zilla

Have you ever wanted to get the exact blue that the Dell website uses or a colour that one of partners has on their site? Well this cool Firefox add-on will provide you with the solution. The advanced eyedropper will allow you to hover over a colour and take the RGB value or the # value. Just copy the value into your image editor and there you have it, the exact same colour! This add-on comes in very handy on a daily basis.

FlagFox

This is a handy add-on if you wan to know the details of the site you are browsing. A little flag will appear in the bottom right of your browser to indicate the locations for the website’s server and provides quick access to detailed web server information.
